RegiStar Tutorial – Reduce Image Noise
The following tutorial will teach you how to stack your images and significantly reduce noise in your astrophotography images.
Have all of your images saved as TIFF files and have them in an easy to reach location.
1. Open RegiStar
2. Click File then Open. Once the Open dialog box is present locate the folder where you saved your TIFF files. Highlight all of your files and click Open.
3. RegiStar will Open all the files you selected for stacking. Click on the Register Images button.
4. A Registration control dialoge box will open. Select the multiple source tab. Leave all the options at their default state. Then click Register.
5. RegiStar will then start to load your images, register them. Once RegiStar has finished registering your images it will display a flat looking image.
Now it’s time to combine them all and reduce some noise. Click on the Combine Images button.
A Combine control dialog box will open. Click on the button that says Select all images. Notice that all of your images will be highlighted in Gray. Then select the Median/Mean radio button. Leave everything else default. Finally click the OK button.
You will now have your stacked image which should have a lot less noise in it than when you started. Click on File, in the Menu bar, then choose Save As. Save it and name where you wish. I always save mine in the same folder and just append the word Stacked to the end of the file name.

And Here is an after picture.
Next is the hard part. Processing your image. I will not be touching on that subject here as everyone has their own styles and preferences. Please let me know what you think?
